Guest Salon
Our large and tastefully decorated guest salon is available for all guests to use and enjoy throughout the day. The salon is beautifully cool in Summer, and with its large open fireplace, warm and cosy in Winter. With doors leading directly onto the large rear terrace and comfy seating area, guests can enjoy a drink from our ‘honesty bar’ or help themselves to the complimentary teas, coffee and biscuits provided. The bar is well stocked with a great range of local wines, cold beers and chilled soft drinks.
Also available in the guest salon is an extensive selection of tourist information literature for local attractions and a small library of travel books about the area. Guests can also enjoy a selection of classic board games, playing cards, chess, dominos and backgammon sets.
Dining Room
The dining room at Le Manoir du Bois Mignon is a very and grand and opulent place to dine. With traditional stone walls, high ceilings, massive original fireplace, large monastery table and of course, ‘Kevin’ the 12 pointer stag’s head, breakfast and dinner are always a memorable occasion at Le Manoir du Bois Mignon.
Hearty and plentiful breakfasts and delicious home cooked dinners are served in our dining room as an alternative to alfresco dining during the Summer months, with the morning sun streaming through the windows and the double doors open out onto the sunny rear terrace.
In Winter, the dining room has an altogether different ambience, being cosy and welcoming, with a roaring fire blazing and candles flickering, perfect for enjoying an intimate dinner and a glass or two of local red wine from our well stocked cave.
Alfresco Dining
To make the most of the beautiful Dordogne Summer sunshine, our guests can choose to enjoy breakfast or dinner outside in our pretty alfresco dining area next to the pool. Breakfast is served as a mix of buffet style and table service. It offers a plentiful and delicious choice, including fresh bread and pastries still warm from the boulangerie, fresh fruits and juices, local cheeses and meats, fresh eggs from our own chickens and of course, lashings of freshly brewed ground coffee and speciality teas to help start the day!
Dinner is available several times a week, ‘table d’hote’ style and we offer either 2 or 3 courses with matched local wines and tea and coffee to finish. Using only the finest locally sourced ingredients and produce, all food is home cooked in our own kitchen by Vanessa.
Throughout the day we also offer ‘lite bites’ served poolside, including tapas and sharing platters and naturally, if our guests work up a thirst, the honesty bar, well stocked with local wines, beers and soft drinks is always open!
The Pool
Our stunning 5×10 metre swimming pool, surrounded by beautiful climbing roses is open daily between 8.00 am and 8.00 pm from April through to October and is perfect for a few lengths before breakfast or a refreshing dip to cool down in the heat of the day. Luxury sun loungers and side tables are available for our guests and large fluffy pool towels are also provided, perfect for soaking up the sun, reading a book or even a quick ‘snooze’ after a long lunch!
Our waterfall feature provides a calming ambience to the pool area by day and shaded seating, with relaxing hanging chairs provide a welcome escape from the Summer sun. By night, the underwater lighting glows and reflects the ripples of the water onto the surrounding walls, giving a stunning light show.
Guest Activities
Le Manoir Grounds
Le Manoir du Bois Mignon and Maison des Vignes are set in 2 acres of beautiful mature grounds with centuries old trees, expansive lawns and fruit trees including apples, figs, cherries, peach and walnuts. Stunning scenery abounds, with amazing views of the Dordogne river, vineyards from the Bergerac Montravel appellation and the forest, ‘Bois Mignon’ from which Le Manoir takes its name. Guests can even visit our ‘neighbours’ and say hi to the sheep and horses grazing in the fields next to Le Manoir du Bois Mignon.
Entering the property through impressive double gates is a large, secure, gravel parking area for guest cars while Maison des Vignes has its own private entrance and parking for 2 cars.
With large terraces to the front and rear of the property with comfy seating areas, it is always easy to find a sunny or sheltered spot to settle down, play games, read a good book or just chill out! Dotted around the grounds are more ‘hidden’ seating areas for guests to discover while our outdoor bar area has swinging egg chairs, a large chandelier and ‘honesty bar’ stocked with wines, beers and soft drinks as well as a dart board, table tennis and petanque equipment for guests to use.
Le Manoir du Bois Mignon flanked on one side of the property by the mighty Dordogne, one of the largest rivers in France. To make the most of this there is a beautiful terrace garden, planted with a meadow of wild flowers and overlooking the water where guests can sit on a deck chair and watch the wildlife, including swans, herons and the occasional fishing boat and kayak drift by!
The river garden is also home to our chickens including Cissie, Doris and Strawberry who provide hours of entertainment for younger guests with their antics, not to mention the delicious fresh eggs they lay for us every day.
